Crystal Mills

I really felt like there was a slimmer, healthier and more confident woman on the inside and I didn’t want many more years to pass and not bring her out and enjoy a better quality of life. My motivation?? Losing my mother to cancer when she was only 39 and I was 17, then my grandfather due to diabetes and being overweight, then my foster father to a heart attack when he was just 54, all within 3 years. When I had my 2 boys in 2005 and 2007 I knew I wanted them to have a healthy and happy mother. Knowing what I’m faced with genetically I wanted to make my body as strong and healthy as possible so that if faced with an illness I am strong to fight! Losing 70 lbs 8 years ago changed my life in every way and lead me to helping others also change their lives. I became a Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor Specialist, Licensed also to teach Zumba and Piloxing and have been successfully teaching in the community for 5 years. I have had the pleasure of helping many lose weight and even gain weight. I enjoy teaching folks how to live a healthy and active lifestyle and how to become stronger both mentally and physically. It’s not just about reshaping/retraining our bodies, but our minds. I am extremely excited for the opportunity that lies ahead with SFL! I believe in building great relationships and working together to find what is going to make YOU successful in reaching your goals in a way that works for your lifestyle. I find it very rewarding to help people find a happier and healthier version of themselves. I personally know how great this feels! With the right food and guidance anyone is able to live a healthy lifestyle and achieve incredible results!

Growing up my mom regularly hosted dinner parties and I always enjoyed helping with food prep and making dishes from scratch. On my summer breaks, I would travel to New Brunswick and help my grandparents on their Hobbyfarm. They had a huge garden and needed lots of help with food prep, preserving, and canning to prepare them for the harsh Maritime winters. This was certainly what kickstarted my passion for whole foods, cooking and nutrition. I was very lucky growing up. One of the first things I noticed moving here was how much junk food was served at my school. No one knew how to cook, or where their food was coming from. I had also never seen as many overweight kids in one place. It became apparent pretty quick that people lacked a healthy relationship with food. Of course, I was in heaven when I first visited friends houses and we would eat endless amounts of pizza, packaged cookies, mac and cheese, chips, and candies. It was like I entered candy paradise. I accumulated some extra pounds after moving to Canada and this was definitely my first Aha! Moment and truly saw, you are what you eat. It wasn’t until my 20’s that I was struggling with a back injury (2 herniated disks/Sciatica pain)that I fully delved into my Nutrition adventure, It changed my life. My back injury stemmed from a horseback riding accident where I fell back first onto a pile of rocks. After trying everything from Physio and Osteopathy to Chiropractors, I felt very much at the mercy of other professionals. I wanted to take matters into my own hands and do ‘Everything’ I could to get better. I changed my course in my life and decided to study at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition to educate and encourage other people to take their health into their own hands. I have changed my lifestyle, eating habits, exercise routine and stress management and can proudly say that I am pain free nowadays. I have worked in the Health food industry for the past 3 years and had the honor of being surrounded by a few fellow practicing Registered Holistic Nutrition Consultants, a Naturopathic Doctor and a Massage Therapist which all have taught me so much about how we can help ourselves. I have loved food and nutrition for as long as I can remember and I am very excited to share my knowledge and stories with all the lovely people looking to empower themselves. I know from my own experience, its the best gift you can give to yourself. I believe there is nothing more powerful than the journey of being happy inside and out.

When I was a young woman I quickly realized I wanted to be a physical education teacher, my favorite subject like all kids at that time. Then I realized the theory part of the physical education wasn’t as enjoyable or the extra years of college I would have to partake in. It soon became an unreachable goal for me. After having three children and gone through divorce, I decided that I really had a passion for physical fitness and joined a gym and then took on jobs working at the local gyms teaching classes. Then tragedy struck, and my son became ill, he started having seizures one day and the prognosis wasn’t good. They located a hypothalamus hematoma – a brain tumor. Caring for him became my focus and I had let myself go. It was time to get back into the healthy life style, not only for me but for my son who needs me to help him heal as well. Cue Crystal Mills, helping me with my own weight loss journey, which lead to her asking me if I would be interested in working at Simply For Life – of course, I replied “absolutely!”. Simply For Life has helped me, and I wanted to help others become healthier and happier. The joy it brings me when I see them succeed is enough to keep me going every week! Now with the family-oriented business and the knowledge I continue to obtain I’m becoming the best me I can become.

Growing up I was always involved in sports and being active with friends, but always ate sandwiches or had meat and potatoes kind of meals. Once at university, I realized my food choices were very basic and my food options started to change as I began trying different things. I also became more aware of how to fuel my body with those foods. After graduating, I began coaching, leading group fitness and yoga classes, 1:1 personal training and teaching. I had to find multiple ways to motivate and stay connected with clients. I enjoy cooking my own food and trying new recipes. I am very passionate, personable, and easy to get along with but am ready to give you that extra nudge you may need.
